Rockford, IL – 110 Miles

July 24, 2010

I was sweeping today, and due to several flats along the way, we had to rack up in the vans for the last 20 miles or so. This time it was very important to get into town quick, because we were showering at a YMCA, and only had the showers booked for about an hour. We got the team in and out quick, but couldn’t get into our lodging yet. We loaded all of our bags and bikes into and onto the vans, and squeezed ourselves in the remaining space to head to dinner. Today’s dinner gave me a little reminder of how the Journey of Hope used to look like, Saturn dealers along the way excited to have us come by. Saturn used to be a major sponsor of JOH, but since shutting down we don’t have that luxury any more. This place isn’t a Saturn dealer anymore, as they don’t make the cars, but is still a dealership in transition to another brand. I’m not sure if all of the dealerships closed, or just have no interest in us any more, but this is the first we’ve seen all summer. They served us some incredible spaghetti, ravioli, and lasagna! Just what we need for the 100 miles tomorrow!
