Eureka, NV – 70 Miles
June 21, 2010
Today’s ride wasn’t as long as yesterday’s, but I didn’t have time to heal fully overnight, so it seemed a lot harder. I’m definitely seeing this trip through new eyes on the bike. It’s a lot easier than being on crew, but it hurts a lot more! Luckily, we were well sponsored here, starting with lunch at DJ’s Diner. I’m sure hunger had something to do with my judgment, but I’m still going to go out on a limb and say that they served me the best burger I’ve ever had. After lunch, we headed back to lodging to shower up, and had a bit of free time. I ended up taking an accidental nap, and was woken up just in time to head out to dinner with the Lions club. They served us a very large spaghetti dinner, leaving us feeling ready for tomorrows ride. On the walk back to lodging I stopped at a small convenience store, and found out that the local high schools mascot is the Vandal, so I picked up a T-shirt that says “Vandals – Class of 2010”. For those of you who don’t know, or don’t remember, Vandalia is the name of my German fraternity, so we’re also known as the vandals, which made this find a perfect coincidence.
